WEG Selection Trials

The first of the trials was at Mons in Belgium last week, and things did not go exactly according to plan for Julia. Vedor had one down and two time in the qualifier for the Grand Prix which did not give him a spot. Then Julia rode Que Sera in the second qualifier and he also had a rail. This meant Julia could not ride in the Grand Prix class therefore missed out on staying in the points system for automatic selection.

This has not put her out of the running however. Edwina Alexander is automatically selected, and the two best-performed on points after the two selection shows are also automatic. It is then up to the discretion of the selectors to name the fourth team member and the reserve.

The second show has begun at Spangenberg in Germany and the girls have provided the stand-out performances so far in the 1.50 class. Time was tight, with Amy Graham/Bella Baloubet finishing on one penalty and 12th, Julia/Vedor on two penalties and 17th, and Jamie Winning/Nicklaus on four plus one, well up in the field of 88.

Vegas was also clear in the 1.45 class today but not fast enough for a ribbon, while Que Sera finished 8th in the 1.40 class yesterday.
